   Some people have special dietary needs that may, for example, be linked to their activity, metabolic situation or age. For these people a normal lifestyle, well being and health can only be achieved with nutritional support.
   Understanding of nutritional requirements is continuously improving. Scientists, medical consultants and experts in nutrition are increasingly aware of the health benefits that can be provided by adapted diets. This results in constantly improved dietetic products.
          
Special skills: a unique industry
   The dietetic food industry has expertise to take part in scientific discussion, to conduct research and to initiate technological development.
      
   In order to develop dietetic foods, industry works with nutritionists and doctors.
   For each category of product, a balance has to be found between various nutrients: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, etc. Flavour, taste and texture must be taken into account to ensure nutritional goals are met by food that is acceptable and enjoyable.
